Why Manasota Key

Florida's Most Unspoiled Barrier Island

Manasota Key is one of the last truly undeveloped barrier islands on Florida's Gulf Coast. No stoplights, no high-rises, no chain restaurants. Just beaches, wildlife, and Old Florida quiet. An ebike is the perfect way to experience all of it.

What to Explore

Best Places to Ride on Manasota Key

The full island is worth exploring. These are the stops our riders always remember.

🌿

Stump Pass State Park

The crown jewel of Manasota Key. A mile of pristine protected beach at the south tip with excellent shelling and shark tooth hunting. Bike and walk-in entry is just $2. Lock up and explore the nature trail through the mangroves.

Englewood area guide
🌊

Lemon Bay Aquatic Preserve

7,200+ acres of protected estuary on the Great Florida Birding Trail. Ride the bayside at low tide for the best wildlife viewing — manatees, dolphins, roseate spoonbills, and great blue herons in the shallows.

Full bird watching guide
🏖️

Manasota Beach

The main public beach near the north end of the key with a pavilion and restrooms. Good shelling, clear Gulf water, and almost always uncrowded even in peak season. Fat tires ride the packed sand near the water.

🌅

Blind Pass Beach

A quieter stretch midway down the key. Local favorite for watching the sunset over the Gulf. Almost no tourist crowds — the kind of beach that feels like you discovered it yourself.

🦭

Bayside Manatee Spots

The Lemon Bay side of the key has several pulloffs where manatees regularly gather in the shallows. Best in cooler months when they seek warmer water near culverts. Ride slowly and quietly — ebikes barely make a sound.

🍹

Waverly's at the Key

One of the few restaurants on Manasota Key, right on the water. Ride over for a cold drink and waterfront lunch. Classic Old Florida casual dining that's hard to find anywhere else.

Shark Tooth Hunting on Manasota Key by Ebike

Manasota Key — and Stump Pass State Park in particular — is one of the best spots for fossilized shark teeth on Florida's Gulf Coast. The same geological formations that make Venice famous for shark teeth extend down through Manasota Key, and the remote beaches here see far fewer hunters than the Venice beaches.

The big advantage of an ebike for shark tooth hunting on Manasota Key is mobility. Instead of picking one beach and staying there, you can ride to four or five access points in a single morning, dramatically increasing your odds of finding quality specimens. Fat tires let you ride right on the packed sand near the waterline where teeth concentrate.

Go at low tide. Teeth are most exposed on the sand bar just offshore when the tide is out. Check the tide chart the night before.
👁️
Look for black triangles. Fossilized teeth are typically black or dark gray. Scan the wave wash zone where shells and debris concentrate.
🚲
Ride multiple beaches. Don't stay in one spot. Use your ebike to hit Manasota Beach, Blind Pass, and Stump Pass in one morning.
🌊
After storms is best. Wave action churns up new teeth. The morning after a weather event is prime hunting time on Manasota Key.

Common Questions

Manasota Key Ebike Rental FAQ

Do you deliver ebikes to vacation rentals on Manasota Key?
Yes. We deliver fat-tire electric bikes directly to vacation rentals, condos, and private homes anywhere on Manasota Key — from the north end near Englewood Beach all the way down to the Stump Pass area. Just enter your Manasota Key address when you book and we'll coordinate timing with you.
How long is Manasota Key by ebike?
Manasota Key is approximately 11 miles long from Englewood Beach at the north to Stump Pass State Park at the south. On one of our fat-tire ebikes at a comfortable pace the full length takes about 35 to 45 minutes each way. Most riders do the full loop — Gulf side going south and Lemon Bay bayside coming back — in a relaxed morning with stops.
Can you find shark teeth on Manasota Key?
Yes — and Manasota Key is one of the best spots for it on the Gulf Coast. Stump Pass State Park at the south tip is especially productive. The beaches here see far fewer hunters than Venice Beach, and the same fossil-rich geological formations extend through the whole key. An ebike lets you ride to multiple beach access points in a single morning, which dramatically increases your chances of finding good specimens.
Can you ride an ebike on the beach on Manasota Key?
Yes. Our fat-tire ebikes ride on packed sand near the water's edge along the Gulf side of Manasota Key. Stick to the firm wet sand below the high tide line. Inside Stump Pass State Park the beach is more protected — ride to the entrance, lock up, and walk the beach from there.
What is the best ebike route on Manasota Key?
Ride south from Englewood Beach along the Gulf side to Stump Pass State Park — stopping at Manasota Beach, Blind Pass, and any beach access point that catches your eye. Then return north via the Lemon Bay bayside for completely different scenery. Manatees, dolphins, osprey, and roseate spoonbills on the bay side. Empty Gulf beaches and shark teeth on the south end. The full loop is about 11 miles and takes a relaxed 2 to 3 hours with stops. See our full Gulf Coast bird guide for what to look for on the bay side.
Is Manasota Key good for snowbird ebike rental?
Manasota Key is one of the best snowbird ebike destinations on the entire Gulf Coast. The terrain is completely flat, the 11-mile island gives you a perfect daily route, and the wildlife on Lemon Bay is spectacular all winter. Our weekly rental at $299 gives you the bike for your full stay. We deliver once at the start and pick up once at the end — no logistics on your end at all.
How does Manasota Key compare to Boca Grande for ebike riding?
Both are excellent barrier islands but very different in character. Manasota Key is longer at 11 miles, wilder, and much more remote — almost no commercial development, incredible wildlife, and the best shark tooth hunting. Boca Grande on Gasparilla Island is more charming and historic — a beautiful village, famous lighthouse, and world-class tarpon fishing. Many visitors ride both islands on a week-long Gulf Coast trip.
What is the best time of day to ride Manasota Key by ebike?
Early morning is best — cooler temperatures, active wildlife on the bay side at low tide, and completely empty Gulf beaches before 9am. Check the tide chart the night before: low tide on the Lemon Bay side is when manatees, herons, and dolphins concentrate in the shallows. For Manasota Key shark tooth hunting ebike rides, low tide on the Gulf side exposes the sand bars where teeth wash up. Starting at 7am gives you cool air, low tide, and the whole island to yourself.
